Job Overview:

Behavioural Analysts are responsible for developing, coordinating, evaluating, and ensuring provision of behavioural rehabilitation programs or behavioural education sessions in conjunction with the Neuro Behavioural Clinical Manager

The Behavioral Analyst works in the hospital or community to make clinical decisions about behaviour through assessing, developing, implementing and teaching internal and external providers specific client programs. This role is both mobile, requiring driving to client locations and requires delivering service in a virtual format where necessary Within this role the Behaviour Analyst participates in the process and makes recommendations regarding staff recruitment, engagement and retention though being a member of the interview panels, audits of staff adherence to patient programming and contributing to performance appraisals at West Park Healthcare Centre.

Accountabilities:  

Specific Accountabilities

The Behaviour Analyst works in the hospital or the community to assess, develop, implement and teach external providers specific client programs. This role is mobile, requiring driving to client locations. It also requires the ability to deliver services in a virtual format if required.

  • Assess suitability of potential clients for to receive program services in conjunction with the Neuro Behavioural Clinical Manager
  • Liaise with referral sources, internal and external care providers to provide input and education.
  • Provide teaching of behavioural and rehab interventions to internal and external caregivers.
  • Deliver community based learning to agencies.
  • Participate in the interview and performance appraisal process at West Park Healthcare Centre and for external partners as requested.

Unit Accountabilities

Functional Guidance

  • Provide teaching of behavioural interventions to internal and to external care providers.
  • Provide consultation and development of client and program activities.
  • Provide and participate in educational activities.
  • Prepare documentation.

Service Planning and Delivery

  • Assess behaviour and its functions using formal or informal observations and measurement and interpretation of results.
  • Determine client goals based on factors such as client preferences, supporting environments, risks, constraints, and social validity.
  • Select appropriate interventions based on assessment results, supporting environments, risks, constraints, social validity, clinical experience, and best scientific evidence.
  • Deliver ABA interventions directly to individuals who present with a range of skills, levels of functioning, and ages. 
  • Plan for and identify unwanted effects of the recommended interventions. 
  • Implement a full range of scientifically validated, behaviour analytic procedures (i.e., reinforcement, extinction, incidental teaching, and use of naturalistic teaching methods). 
  • Utilize ABA tactics and procedures through direct, caregiver mediated and/or group intervention formats.
  • Train staff and/or caregivers as they deliver new or revised behavioural services.
  • Implement scientifically validated effective procedures for promoting generalization of behaviour change.
  • Observe interventions and assessments carried out by staff and/or caregivers and monitor intervention fidelity.
  • Conduct caregiver training using ABA procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with professionals from other disciplines.
  • Demonstrate adherence to professional ethical expectations. 
  • Make data-based decisions to modify intervention procedures.
  • Conduct functional assessments (including functional analyses).
  • Discuss assessment results, goals, service options and progress with caregivers, if applicable.
  • Evaluate and monitor effectiveness of interventions.
  • Review behaviour plans and assessment outcomes.
  • Review data and measuring progress.
  • Maintain detailed notes of progress, key decisions, and update points.
  • Provide behavioural on-call support.
  • Participate in team and/or hospital wide committees as requested.
  • Provide program statistics.
  • Participate where required in the revenue generating services of the Hospital.

Supervision, Orientation, Coaching, Education and Evaluation

  • Assist with orientation, training, education and evaluation of staff, and external care providers.
  • Delegate to supervisees those responsibilities that such persons can reasonably be expected to perform competently, ethically, and safely. 
  • Confirm that supervisees maintain competence to perform the tasks assigned to them, considering numerous factors, including skills, education, and experience.
  • Assign team members to implement behaviour plans and/or train caregivers to implement behaviour plans.
  • Oversee and provide clinical feedback for clinicians/Behaviour Therapists who carry their own caseload/support their own clients.
  • Provide ongoing direction and guidance to staff to ensure services are being delivered correctly and effectively.
  • Perform audits of staff fidelity to patient programs.
  • Collect, analyze and make recommendations regarding staff fidelity data collected 
  • Participate and provide recommendations in the interview and hiring process
  • Using Staff fidelity data, participate and provide recommendations regarding performance appraisals, areas of growth and remediation for staff, and staff retention.

Safety Awareness

  • To develop programs that incorporate Applied Behaviour Analysis, Escalation Prevention and Crisis Intervention techniques.
  • Be aware of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of patients, residents, students, employees, volunteers, physicians and visitors including:
    • Compliance with the safety standards of the hospital and applicable legislation
    • Identification and prevention of safety issues and problems
    • Taking corrective action, where possible
    • Attendance at safety meetings/training/updates in accordance with the Centre’s standards 
  • Ability to work in a manner that exemplifies the Centre’s core values and helps patients get their life back
  • Evidence of good performance history and attendance record

Other

  • Participate in research and quality improvement activities.
  • Present, promote and represent the ABI Service at conferences and other promotion events as required.

Key Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in education, health, social or behavioural sciences or equivalent as recognized by the Ontario College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts or Behaviour Analyst Certification Board
  • Master’s degree in education health, social or behavioural sciences with a focus in Applied Behaviour Analysis preferred
  • Current Driver License (Ontario) Class G
  • Current Insurance coverage (must provide a copy)
  • Provides own vehicle
  • Registration with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario required
  • 2 year related experience
  • Ability to develop and implement behavioural assessment and treatment
  • Knowledge of behavioural techniques and crisis intervention and prevention
  • Conflict resolution and problem-solving ability
  • Demonstrated teaching skills
  • Proven leadership ability
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to demonstrate a customer service philosophy
  • Availability to work a flexible work schedule (some evenings and weekends may be required)
  • Knowledge and experience working in a community based intervention model
  • Knowledge and experience working with persons with brain injury
  • Knowledge and experience providing rehabilitation
  • Knowledge and experience providing applied behavioural analysis
  • Knowledge and experience providing consultation
  • Experience working collaboratively on a multidisciplinary team
  • Access to a reliable vehicle is required
  • Evidence of satisfactory attendance and punctuality
  • More than 3 years related experience
