Advisory Engineering Technician

Job purpose

Works under the supervision of hardware and/or software design engineers.  Analyze and test devices, components, and subassemblies used in both legacy and new products.  Lead efforts for managing components and product lifecycle under the supervision of hardware design engineers.  Aid in the development and execution of verification and validation test procedures.  Performs other duties as assigned by Management. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Works under the supervision of hardware and/or software design engineers. 
  • Analyze and test devices, components, and subassemblies used in both legacy and new products. 
  • Lead efforts for managing components and product lifecycle under the supervision of hardware design engineers.
    • Support component obsolescence issues and tracking of component life cycles.
    • Provide needed design documentation and support regulatory submittals for component changes.
    • Support root cause failure analysis for production and field component failures.
    • Support component reliability analysis using reliability simulation modeling software.
    • Acquire and compile all needed documentation for electrical and packaging hardware.
  • Aid in the development and execution of verification and validation test procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Management. 

Qualifications

  • AS / Technical degree in Engineering/Technology discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum 13 years of relevant technical experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in electrical hardware troubleshooting and testing.
  • Technical experience in at least a subset of the following areas strongly preferred:
    • High precision analog
    • EMC / EMI
    • High voltage / high current defibrillation circuitry
    • RoHS / REACH
    • On-board IC-based power supplies
    • Verification and Validation
    • Printed circuit boards
    • Wireless communication
    • Firmware
    • Hardware / Software integration
  • Demonstrated ability to support product design testing from the requirements phase to production.
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • This position may be available at different career levels depending on experience, education, etc.

Preferred experience:

  • Medical devices
  • Handheld or wearable devices
  • Regulatory compliance standards
  • Understanding of mechanical design
  • Understanding of software design and troubleshooting
  • Experience with coordinating outside design resources
  • Lifecycle engineering
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficient in the use of general engineering lab equipment including soldering stations, oscilloscopes, waveform generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, multimeters, power supplies, etc.

Working conditions

This position is generally performed in a typical office environment that is usually quiet.  Employee is expected to work collaboratively with team members, as well as able to work independently with limited supervision.  Work will require significant computer work.

Physical requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Supervisory responsibility

No direct reports, however technical supervision and compliance and quality reviews of junior engineers and technicians is required.
