West Park Healthcare Centre helps patients get their lives back by providing specialized rehabilitative and complex care after a life‐altering illness or injury such as lung disease, amputation, stroke, and traumatic musculoskeletal injuries.

West Park is building a new hospital and transforming its 27-acre site into an integrated campus of care, enabling the hospital to evolve its rehabilitative programs to meet Ontario’s future healthcare needs.

Qualifications:

·          BSc (Occupation Therapy) or MSc (Occupational Therapy), Health Sciences or Education preferred.

·          Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario

·          Membership with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapy and/or  Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists

·          Five years clinical occupational therapy experience

·          Strong interpersonal, communication (both written and verbal) and organizational skills

·          Ability to be self-directed and effectively problem-solve

·          Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and within an interprofessional team

·          Demonstrated adaptability/flexibility

·          Ability to demonstrate a patient and family-centered service philosophy

·          Clinical experience within relevant field – 3 years preferred

·          Demonstrated clinical leadership experience-3 years preferred

·          Assistive Devices Program Authorizer status for Wheelchairs & Mobility Devices

·          Must be able to work in a fast pace setting with daily multiple admissions and discharges

·          Evidence of good performance history and attendance record

·          Ability to work in a manner that exemplifies the core values of West Park:  Excellence, Respect, Trust, Collaboration and Accountability

·          Should be aware of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of patients, residents, students, employees, volunteers, physicians and visitors e.g. IPAC

 

Accountabilities:

·          Responsibilities related to CPL activities include:

o    Collaborate and partner closely with CPL- Physiotherapy daily

o    Review and facilitate implementation of best practice on Neuro and support with Centre-wide implementation with other CPLs.

o    Facilitate discussion, chair meetings and guide staff in the application of college standards, clinical skills, and teaching skills.

o    Role model; mentor and facilitate knowledge transfer among staff via informal and formal ways. 

o    Lead in the provision of staff/student orientation.

o    Champion and model interprofessional collaboration and support interprofessional education on Neuro unit and Centre wide.

o    Co-ordinate student education within service; liaise with student coordinator and education institutions in regards to student placement, curriculum input, and seminars as appropriate.

o    Provide input to performance appraisals of therapists with consideration of adherence to college standards, competency and recommendations regarding development opportunities.

o    Act as a resource to support decision making for clinical workload coverage within available resources.

o    Participate in human resource planning including staffing allocation; recruiting and hiring processes

o    Participate in evaluation and research such as for Stroke Distinction.

o    Liaise with external stakeholders and partners such as Toronto Stroke Network or ABI network

o    Serve as a resource for service based planning e.g. new hospital building.

o    Assist in the identification of capital and operational equipment needs (needs assessment, quotes, and written proposal).

·          Responsibilities related to Occupational Therapist role include:

o    Assess and treat patients based on regulatory requirements.

o    Provide education, training, and counseling to patients, families/caregivers, and interprofessional team members.

o    Participate in discharge planning, liaising with community partners/stakeholders, as appropriate

o    Participate in interprofessional rounds

o    Complete timely and thorough clinical documentation

o    Complete clinical workload

o    Provide supervision to rehabilitation assistants in the delivery of occupational therapy services

o    To provide occupational therapy coverage throughout the Centre on an as-needed basis

o    To provide on-call services for weekend supervision of rehabilitation assistants on a rotational basis, as needed

o    Pursue continuous professional development, which includes active participation in O.T. Professional Standards & Issues Committee, attendance in relevant in-service educational programs.

o    Participate in team and/or Centre-wide committees, as appropriate.

o    Participate as required in revenue generating services of the Centre.

o    Participate in clinical evaluation of equipment, clinical protocols, as appropriate.

o    Participate in student education (e.g. student preceptorship, labs, tutorials)

o    Certification in Functional Independence Measure (FIM) within probationary period
