Job Overview:

Assist SLP/team in delivering plan of care. As a member of the ABI Rehab team, deliver communication and swallowing treatment. All aspects of client care are performed under the supervision of a regulated Speech-Language Pathologist.

Accountabilities:

  • Construct high quality communication displays including communication boards and books
  • Conduct treatment sessions with clients, facilitators and staff.
  • Participate in educating and training clients and caregivers in the use of devices and/or techniques and supported communication techniques and strategies
  • Lead/Assist with client treatment groups.
  • Compile, construct and calibrate therapy materials/devices.
  • Prepare home practice programs for clients, with input of supervising SLP
  • Perform minor repair and cleaning of equipment.
  • Participate in interprofessional team meetings and service committees as required. Collaborate with Speech and Language Pathologists on a daily basis.
  • Participate in the evaluation of clinical practice and data collection.
  • Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation and statistical workload.
  • Ability to work in a manner that exemplifies the centre’s core values and helps patients get their life back
  • Evidence of good performance history and attendance record

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a recognized 1 year Communicative Disorders Assistant program
  • Member of the Communicative Disorders Assistants Association of Canada preferred 
  • Previous experience working with adult clients with physical and/or cognitive challenges and/or neurological populations preferred
  • Experience working with people with aphasia and use of SCA strategies preferred
  • Previous experience working with people who have swallowing impairments/dysphagia an asset.
  • Effective interpersonal, organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities to facilitate service delivery Experience with a range of operating systems
  • Ability to use WebEx and other digital communication tools, including email, electronic charting e.g. EPR etc preferred.
  • Ability to use Boardmaker and graphics software programs to create communication display boards and books
  • Demonstrated reliable work habits
