Controls and Instrumentation Engineer

Graymont is seeking Controls and Instrumentation Engineer that will help develop and implement advanced process controls (APC) and automation solutions for industrial systems globally. Reporting to the Manager, Technology and Process Development, the successful candidate will design, manage, and maintain systems to ensure safe and efficient operations while supporting process improvements across all unit operations. Additionally, the Controls and Instrumentation Engineer requires strong collaboration across functions and expertise in industrial processes such as quarrying, calcining, and material handling.
 
 
Responsibilities
 
• Work safely and promote solutions that preserve or enhance the safety culture within Graymont.
• Design, develop, and test new control systems as well as maintain and modify existing systems.
• Develop, test, and support programming for expert control systems (ECS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), human machine interfaces (HMI), and operational technology (OT) networks.
• Support automation at facilities through instrument calibration, control loop tuning, and optimization of advanced process controls.
• Utilize trusted contractors and internal resources to maintain and expand the corporate data historian (OSIsoft PI) and Asset Framework structure.
• Seek and evaluate opportunities to leverage value from data visualization and analytics software tools integrated with the corporate data historian.
• Collaborate with project managers, plant engineers, plant operations staff, Information Systems (IS), and other internal staff.
• Liaise with consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
• Participate in developing, implementing, and maintaining global standards for instrumentation, control systems, OT network infrastructure, and corporate data historian.
• Identify technology and innovation opportunities in the areas of instrumentation, process control, automation, and data analytics.
• Provide on-call support with flexibility to work irregular hours to ensure smooth project implementation and promptly address facility issues
 
 
Qualifications
 
Education: Degree in electrical, mechanical, or computer engineering, or other engineering discipline with training in industrial controls and instrumentation
Systems Knowledge: Proficient with OSIsoft PI system administration, and other industrial control systems
Professional Experience: Minimum 6 years of experience in controls and/or process engineering related to lime or processing industries
Beneficial Experience: Demonstrated skills in specific control disciplines such as:
- advanced process control (APC)
- multiple-input & multiple-output (MIMO) with model predictive control (MPC)
- distributed control systems (DCS)
- programmable logic controllers (PLC)
- Human machine interface (HMI) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA)
Travel Component: Frequent travel (up to 50% plus) including cross-border between Canada and United States, with occasional travel to Mexico, Australia, and Southeast Asia
