Position Overview

The Business Development Associate/Senior Associate is a member of the USG Business Development Team, supporting the achievement of USG’s annual new business targets, DAI competitiveness, and business development efficiency. This is a junior-level professional position assigned to one of the BD teams.

 

The Business Development Associate assumes the role of Proposal Coordinator within the DAI proposal process. They are an integral member of the BD unit – providing support to the full proposal lifecycle. The Associate/Senior Associate is expected to work closely with all proposal team members, serving as the information and communications hub on a proposal team and working directly with the proposal manager. The primary responsibilities of an Associate are to coordinate proposal development by developing and maintaining a strong understanding of DAI proposal processes, tools, and structures as well as USAID proposal requirements; draft tables, non-scoring annexes, and other ancillary inputs to support proposal development; and support capture strategy implementation. This position is most appropriate for someone who likes a fast-paced environment, teamwork, has a clear communication style, and is comfortable working with individuals at all levels of an organization.

 

This is a full-time position which requires authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

Live Proposal Development

  •       According to the ebb and flow of the proposal process, is engaged in a portfolio of new business opportunities at various stages of the proposal lifecycle.
  •        Provides operational and administrative support to live proposal efforts, working closely with the proposal manager and key contributors from across USG departments (Sectors, Regions, others).
  •       Provide support to other proposal team members in their development of deliverables including recruitment, subcontracts, and pricing.
  •      Serve as a member of multiple proposal teams throughout the year to ensure compliant and efficient proposal processes and products.
  •       Responsible for proposal inputs that may include draft tables, charts, text boxes, maps, organizational past performance, and non-scoring annexes including Branding Implementation and Marking Plans, others.

 

  Proposal Pre-Positioning

·       Provides administrative, logistical, and research support to proposals in the capture phase. This may include preparing for in-country “reconnaissance” trips, investigating bid opportunities including researching competitor profiles or donor mapping, participating in technical incubators as note taker, and providing support to other key preparatory tasks including subcontractor discussions and independent consultant onboarding.   

 

  Training/Mentoring

  • As appropriate or requested, serve as a mentor/coach to other junior/new proposal team members, providing support in upholding DAI business development standards, processes, and tools.
  • Provide support in organizing and facilitating BD training and capacity building.

 

Additional responsibilities as deemed necessary.

Qualifications & Skills  

·       Grade 2: Minimum of 1 year of relevant professional experience and a college degree. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

·       Grade 3: Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience and a college degree, including 1 year of business development, project management, or related experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

·       Customer service orientation, with a positive, can-do attitude and a sense of humor.

·       Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate information clearly and tailor communication style to diverse audiences.

·       Excellent organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.

·       Able to build and maintain good working relationships with staff at all levels of the organization and external clients from diverse backgrounds.

·       Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

·       Able and willing to adjust work schedule, as needed, to support teams located in different time zones/countries.

·       Able and willing to travel to any country where DAI currently operates or may wish to operate barring times when DAI Global security has deemed travel unsafe.

·       Authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred for P2, required for P3: 

·       Proficiency in a second language (Spanish, French, Russian, or Arabic preferred).

·       Knowledge of USG thematic and functional policies and regulations (Required for P3).

·       An understanding of one of DAI’s specific thematic areas (Economic Growth, Environment, Health, and Governance) is preferred (Required for P3).

Compensation & Benefits:

For P2: For employees working the United States, the full-time equivalent annual base salary for this position is expected to be between $56,626 to $61,622. 

For P3: For employees working the United States, the full-time equivalent annual base salary for this position is expected to be between $63,704 to $69,325. 

Salary for part-time employees will be prorated based on actual hours worked. Actual offers will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant education, experience, skills, seniority, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Eligible U.S. based employees will be able to enroll in medical, dental and vision insurance, plus a 401(k)-retirement plan with a company match. Additionally, employees will be eligible for company-paid annual leave (vacation & holidays), sick leave, and parental leave, as well as short- and long-term disability coverage. Detailed information will be provided at the time a formal offer is extended.

For employees working outside of the United States, compensation and benefits will vary based on location.
