Background

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a qualified institution to conduct qualitative work to better understand experiences of caregivers participating in growth monitoring and promotion activities for their young child. The field activities will be conducted in May of 2025.

Scope of Work

The institution will:

  • Provide feedback on the qualitative interview guides.

  • Help identify an appropriate field site.

  • Identify and hire two (2) experienced qualitative enumerators, with a good understanding of English. This level of English proficiency is necessary for effective communication during training sessions, which will be facilitated in English, and for clear communication with IFPRI during field activities.

  • Support the training of enumerators and the pilot-test of the interview guides, with the expectation that the training of enumerators will be conducted in English.

  • Organize all fieldwork related logistics, including (but not limited to) training, transportation, fieldwork, supervision of fieldwork activities, and availability of incentives for study participants.

  • Monitor the quality of data collection.

  • Conduct observations of implementation in the field.

  • Ensure local sensitization about the field study as needed.

  • Obtain all required local permissions.

  • Conduct the transcription and translation of the data.

Deliverables

  • Data sets.

  • Brief field report.

Duration

This is a 2-month consultancy from May to June 2025.

Scope

 30-40 minute in-depth interviews with caregivers of 25 children.

Expected Project Timeline

Total project length: approximately 60 days.

  • Training and pilot test:

Duration: approximately 4 days.

  1. Training for pilot: 2 days.

  2. Data collection for pilot: 1 day.

  3. Retraining after pilot: 1 day.

  • Data collection:

Duration: approximately 7 days

  • Transcription and translation:

Duration: approximately 25 days.

Location

  • Accra metropolitan area, Ghana.

Required qualifications

  • Ample experience conducting high-quality data collection for nutrition research in Ghana.

  • Experience collecting qualitative data.

  • Experience working with academic partners.

  • Experience conducting research on growth monitoring and promotion.
