Our client is a reputable shipping (Tanker) MNC. Currently, they are seeking a well qualified candidate to join them as "Vessel Manager (Tanker)".


In this role, you will be contributing in the following areas :

  • Accountable for the safe, environmentally sound, efficient, and cost effective performance of the ships and personnel assigned.
  • Empowering his team, both ashore and onboard the ships, and providing them with necessary authority to fulfill their roles.
  • Advising and updating the Fleet Director / Fleet manager with relevant information regarding the ship's operations.
  • Ensuring that the ships are being managed in a safe, environmentally sound and cost effective manner in accordance with the terms of the Company's Safety Management System and any other criteria necessary for compliance with relevant regulatory bodies. 
  • To properly close all vetting, audit and investigation observations to prevent recurrence. 
  • To monitor and control vessels expenditure and budget.(Opex and Capex)
  • Hold Safety and Environmental protection as a value. 
  • To maintain an ownership mindset, and with collaboration with commercial colleagues maximize vessel earnings. 
  • Anticipate & drive assigned vessel operational requirements, including: 

○ Dry-dock and major repairs; 

○ Schedule and unscheduled maintenance repairs;

○ Operating expenditure; 

○ Survey and audit requirements (Internal & External); 

○ Development of vessels budgets and keep an overall view of budget utilization. 

○ Endorse the appropriate manning appointments on assigned vessels with Marine HR Resources. 

  • Provide Technical and Operational support and guidance to assigned vessels. 
  • Ensure timely and cost effective supply of stores and spares. 
  • Arrange attendance of service engineers and contractors and consult manufacturers as needed. 
  • Coach and develop Masters, Chief Engineers, and direct reports in line with management objectives. 
  • Participate in interviews and recommend new hires and promotions. 
  • Ensure regular interaction with the ship's staff and monitor defects, inspections, and audits. 
  • Arrangement of all dry-dock activities including yard supervision and analysis of costs. 
  • Working with ships staff in preparation for vetting and port state inspections. 
  • Act as the main contact for commercial and voyage coordination, report technical and operational issues appropriately, and drive improvements in purchasing performance. 
  • Ensure all statutory and class certification remains valid and compliant with industry standards. 
  • Carry out regular Risk reviews for vessel operations and ensure appropriate actions are taken. 
  • Conduct regular vessel visits and reviews of operational and mechanical performance.
  • Provide Senior Management with Vessel Condition reports. 
  • Monitor results of all vetting inspections, internal and external audits. Ensure follow-up on findings and close outs. 
  • Monitor vessel survey cycle, planned maintenance, fuel consumption, and all voyages to ensure safety, economics, and customer satisfaction. 
  • Ensure safety by investigating incidents and reviewing permits for work to be done on vessels. 
  • Ensure that Masters and Chief Engineers drive People Performance, through appropriate systems. 
  • Analyze the nature and cause of any serious breakdown or damages. 
  • Provide key learning following completion of dry-docking and major repairs of assigned vessels. 
  • Act upon any disciplinary actions needed on board assigned vessels. 
  • Ensure vessels Senior Officer Teams are in place on board and drive ownership through paired reliefs. 

Requirements:

  • Sailed as a Chief Engineer onboard vessels (ideally tanker) 
  • Possess minimum 2 years shore-based experience working in a similar role within tankers 
  • Minimum 10 years sea going experience is preferred 
  • Experience of dry docking tankers is desirable 
  • Analytical problem solving, time management, project management and decision making skills 
  • Demonstrates teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Must have strong understanding of Technical, Operational and HSEQ Matters
  • Knowledge of Shipping/Tanker operations is an asset
