Overview

Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, has been helping animals and people since 1873. Our organizations cares for around 7500 animals each year and makes possible a variety of programs to address issues that contribute to the surrender of unwanted animals. As an open-admission organization, we accept every animal in need of help. The Adoptions and Admission Counselor’s role is to interface with the public admitting animals and aiding in the adoption process.

                                                                          

Essential Job Duties:

  • Provides compassionate care to all animals in the shelter. Supply animals with food and water, clean cages, kennels and litter boxes
  • Perform admission phone-line call backs.  Counsel individuals considering surrendering or rehoming a pet.  Schedule appointments for admitting animals
  • Perform adoption procedures including conducting consultations, answering inquiries, showing animals, and providing customer service
  • Perform animal admissions procedures, including setting up incoming animals
  • Record information pertaining to adoptions and admissions. Ensure accuracy of recorded information and process paperwork
  • Ensure shelter’s admission and adoption areas are well maintained in a neat, clean and organized fashion
  • Exercise patience and tact when working with difficult and challenging people
  • Maintain sanitary conditions for animals and work areas
  • Restrain animals for euthanasia when necessary
  • Carry out responsibilities in accord with the company’s policies and applicable state and federal laws
  • Perform other duties as requested

 

Education: High School diploma or equivalent education required.

Experience: Understanding of proper environments for various domestic animals. Customer service experience and good communication skills are preferred. Animal experience is preferred.

Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence/memos, and ability to present information one-on-one and in small group situations effectively. Basic computer skills required. Ability to learn internal software and properly use cleaning supplies. Ability to operate copier, fax machine, cash register, safe and other general office equipment.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, feel, speak, hear and see.  Occasionally required to sit, lift up to 50 pounds, carry 25+ pounds and push and pull 50-100 pounds.
