What you will do

  • Act as primary liaison to CAISO 
  • Provide day-to-day support for the Energy Imbalance Market (EIM) continual improvement projects (i.e. maintenance of the UNS Full Network Model (FNM-IRDT-GRDT-SQMD)). 
  • Develop project plans and timelines for designated EIM projects
  • Provide project management support to the EIM Leadership Team, communicate with team members as to task due dates and completion status, and support or lead planning and status meetings. 
  • Interface with all functional areas engaged in or supporting UNS activity in the EIM Market.

What you will bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a supporting discipline (or equivalent relevant experience)
  • 3 to 7 years’ experience in the electric utility industry
  • General understanding of the operational practices of market functional areas: Wholesale Marketing, System Control & Reliability, Generation, Power Settlements and IT Energy Systems. 
  • Collaborative facilitator, who develops relationships and loyalty with colleagues across all levels and business lines, service as an advisor, coach, leader, and partner.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and navigating a complex matrix environment.
  • Ability to perform detailed analysis.
  • Knowledge of and practical working experience using Microsoft Office tools including Excel and Project.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical and organizational skills.

We are currently seeking a talented individual for the position of EIM Program Manager. This position is the primary liaison to CAISO and is responsible to provide day-to-day support for the Energy Imbalance Market (EIM) continual improvement projects such as but not limited to maintenance of the UNS Full Network Model (FNM-IRDT-GRDT-SQMD). This position is responsible to develop project plans and timelines for designated EIM projects, then provide project management support to the EIM Leadership Team, communicate with team members as to task due dates and completion status, and support or lead planning and status meetings. This position interfaces with all functional areas engaged in or supporting UNS activity in the EIM Market. The work of this position is supervised by the Integrated Energy Solutions Sr. Director or the Market Strategy Sr. Director.

Position-Related Responsibilities

  • Champion market participation through guiding, educating and coaching senior leadership, management, and employees on strategies to improve operational results.
  • Review existing and propose future policies that enhance success in market operations.
  • Ensure use of best business practices and processes in market operations.
  • Liaise to the UNS EIM and Risk Committees
  • Understand the regulatory policies and rulings; interpret impact on UNS; design approach to implementation.
  • Review FERC reporting requirements to ensure consistency across functional areas.
  • Propose recommendations for changes to UNS market participation.
  • Represent the interests of EIM to other UNS initiatives that could impact our market interests.
  • Monitor compliance to the standard Network Model update process and provide day-to-day support on the process and supporting tools.
  • Partner with UNS market leaders from Wholesale, SC&R, Generation, Settlements and IT Energy Systems to achieve optimal results in supporting designated EIM projects.
  • Engage with other UNS business areas as required to execute projects.
  • Participate in a regular cadence of market operations meetings.
  • Ensure/monitor communication among functional groups and impacted business areas.
  • Coordinate change controls for Market resource changes.
  • Generate update statuses as appropriate.
  • Coordinate minor improvements to the Network Maintenance process.
  • Deliver assignments on scope, on time, within budget and with quality results that meet or exceed the customer expectations.
  • Develop customized project schedules for cycles of the Network Model update.
  • Participate in CAISO meetings and market related industry meetings as appropriate.
  • Stays up-to-date with CAISO EIM standards, requirements and agreements.
  • Stays up-to-date on WECC, NERC and FERC compliance requirements.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by management.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.)

Required

  • 3 to 7 years’ experience working in market operations, system control, or a wholesale energy market entity such as CAISO
  • 2 to 5 years of successful project management leadership and implementation experience on projects requiring at least six project stakeholder groups.
  • Understanding of interconnections and the power grid for the WECC region.
  • Knowledge of FERC and regulatory requirements.
  • Consensus-builder who understands how to achieve buy-in from diverse constituencies, and designing win-win solutions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of different energy resources technologies and the limiting factors and cost structure for each.
  • Ability to provide a constructive dialog with Market functional leaders concerning the status and issues of each Model update. 
  • Ability to combine input from a variety of sources and make sound business decisions based on this information.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems in the electric utility industry and ability to identify solutions to complex problems.

Pay Rate: Salary determined based on candidate's experience & qualifications.
